Jessica VanDam-Fanego

 From Ancient Asia, through Western Europe, to her Grandmother’s lap, into her own learned hands, Jessica VanDam-Fanego’s greatest wish is to share her passion and knowledge with the world of needlework with you. From early on, Jessica developed both a love and remarkable facility for this art, and once she found the Royal School of Needlework, there was no stopping her.

Jessica obtained her RSN Certificate and ultimately her Diploma traveling frequently to Surrey, England and San Francisco; she achieved this in just over 3 years. Shortly after founding Stiletto and Mellor Needlework, LLC, Jessica earned her most prestigious commission, an ongoing restoration and recreation of altar linens, vestments and numerous works for the historic Old St. Mary’s Church, in Greektown, Detroit. At the Royal School of Needlework, Jessica studied techniques including: Crewel/Jacobean, Goldwork, Silk Shading, Whitework, Blackwork, Appliqué, Stumpwork and Canvas Stitches/Needlepoint.

Continuing her study, Jessica has also trained with the School of Hand and Lock of London, most recently coming away with a strong facility for the rare and difficult Tambour Technique. 

Jessica is a member in good standing of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America and a Lifetime Friend of the Royal School of Needlework.

Immersed in both the history and future of needlework, Jessica is constantly striving to learn new techniques and continue her advancement in what she believes will always remain a celebrated and unique art form, and never a lost art, but an ever-evolving one for generations to come.

Since graduation Jessica has dedicated herself to education, training and creation for the benefit of all who are interested in these beautiful techniques, as well as patrons and clients. Jessica has done extensive work through the Archdiocese of Detroit and other religious organizations, preserving, protecting and re-creating altar linens, vestments and numerous works for future generations.
