Appliqué

Appliqué, from the Latin "applicare" and subsequently from the French “appliquer,” is ornamental needlework in which pieces of fabric of different shapes and patterns are sewn on to a larger piece to form a picture or pattern.  Smaller pictures can be padded, painted or embellished as desired. In the modern context, while the technique is accomplished either by machine, for our purposes, it is our careful and loving hands which recapture this principal aspect of needlework.
